  • Yes Julian as in Assange. Interview, Stuart, on The New World (his TV show).

    To prevent further confusion...

Julian Assange has that show not Stuart, though Stuart should be doing his own show on Youtube.

Yes Julian Assange and I used to play on the same tiny island. Julian is from a tiny island with a population of 200.

I also went to school with AU's former (and prefered) Prime Minister, used to fix the fence of one of our greatest authors (write of All the Rivers Run and order of australian recipient) and learned to play tennis on our greatest tennis stars tennis court.

I talked to Julian on a BBS in the early 90s before the govt created laws from no-where to put him in jail.

  • You lost me here also. Julian as in Assange?

  • Julian

My "N" key is having trouble inter alia

Don't you think they would agree about alot of governance issues in the modern world?

  • Chris I don't get what you're saying. Stuart should be interviewed by whom? Julia or Julian? Cause Julian Assange just started his debut show today on Russia Today so I'm connecting the dots or should I? And you said Julian would agree with Stuart on a lot of things.

  • Ah! kind of like 'pussy footing around' then?

  • Julia Assage is the person that is going to clean the cat fur out from under my lap top keys so that when I press them I get the letter more than 50% of the time.

Cats shed lots in desert climates (they grow it during the cold nights and shed it during the hot days)

  • nobody of any importance then?
    groups.wall 29 days ago
  • Would that be Julian Assange wikileaks
    groups.wall 29 days ago
  • who is Julia Assage?

as for living on forvik as we are calling it - Papa Stour - yes - they still do but that wee scrap of an island? I doubt it!

  • 2) Julia Assange is going to run out of big guests to interview and/or there will be times when big guests have to cancel. To get activists to our cause, Stuart should be put on perminent standby to be interviewed. I'm sure Julian would agree with Stuart on alot of things. Tell him your Aerospace Minister used to play as a child around the big rock at the front of the Arcadia Bay pub in the early 80s and that my brother and I were the ones that removed the screws from the table top arcade games in the pub to get free credits (my brother got electrocuted by Frogger). He will know what you mean and have you on the show.

  • On a more positive note I've had some ideas on getting exposure.

    1) Dispite what others imply, at some stage someone lived on Forvik once. Invite Time Team to discover the history of the island and locate all the important archological sites before any further building occurrs.

  • wouldn't grow too much in Forvik, the island being a bit on the emall side, also of course weather conditions are not exactly brilliant - not so much the cold but the very damp salt air and high winds - the only few trees in the Shetlands are in Lerwick, behind high walls!

incidentally hemp as a food tastes awful (well hemp oil does)

  • If we are independent we can grow our own hemp and sell it. It grows fast, is highly nutritious, hemp powder high in protein, seeds also highly nutritious. Do we have enough space there/climate? They grow it in Canada. Look at http://www.hempusa.org BTW you don't use concrete with hemp you use lime.

  • Stones good because it's free. For structures using imported materials I would suggest square hay bails rendered with concrete. If the roof is angled you don't need any wood accept where there are holes like doors. For a more industrial structures, get reo bar mesh and cut it to form and octagon dome, cover with fine mesh then render with concrete. Most of the houses in my neighbourhood are mud brick and rammed earth but Forvik needs to conserve it dirt and prob to much rain. Surely hay would be cheaper than hemp.

  • Actually it's not all that new but does seem to do what it 'says on the tin', be interested to hear from anyone who has actually used the stuff.

It appears that ground glass is also used in plaster, makes the stuff glisten (there again why not it's made out of sand)

  • I came across an interesting building material using hemp cuttings and lye to make a pour mix and/or for plastering. It's extremely lightweight yet strong and insulating especially from moisture. http://hempbuilding.com/
Check it out. This guy is building in Ireland.

  • Amazing - I've just been to the shop - Forvik flags on everything but NO actual Forvik Flag! Why not have a range of sizes so that people can fly them from various flag poles at home, at work or afloat? Now that would get the message across (I'd have a couple of one and half to two yard ones immediately)

A group dedicated to finding ways to support the aims of Forvik.
There are no announcements yet.
So very true Chris - I can add little to that, so I won't!!!!

How much does it cost to fly to Shetlands from the mainland? What are the dimensions of Forvik? Is there a map? Looks the size of a small caravan park.
